3M™Petrifilm™ Rapid E.coli / Coliform Count (REC) Plate is a selective & differential sample-ready-culture medium system which contains proprietary nutrients, a cold water-soluble gelling agent, 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indoyl-D-glucuronide (BCIG) an indicator of gluronidase activity, and a tetrazolium indicator that facilitates colony enumeration. The 3M™ Petrifilm REC plate is used for the enumeration of E.coli & Coliforms in the food and beverage industries.
These plates provide both E.coli & Total Coliform Count information with confirmed results in just 18-24 hours. By eliminating subsequent confirmation steps required with most traditional reference methods, the 3M™ Rapid E.coli / Coliform Count Plates can help increase productivity and reduce overall labour costs.

The 3M™ Petrifilm™ range is easy to use in any laboratory with 3 simple steps: –
E.coli form blue to blue-green colonies with or without gas.
Coliforms form red colonies with closely associated (within one colony diameter) entrapped gas. Colonies not associated with gas (a distance greater than one colony diameter between colony and gas bubble) are not counted as coliforms.
Total coliforms count consists of both red with gas and blue colonies with or without gas.
