HardyCHROM Candida is a selective medium recommended for the isolation and identification of yeasts. This medium is especially useful in detecting mixed yeast infections. It allows a complete view of mixed populations of yeasts, while inhibiting bacterial species. HardyCHROM Candida relies on chromagenic substrates to reveal specific enzymes for species differentiation by colony colour.
- C. glabrata –smooth pink colonies, often with a darker mauve center.
- C. tropicalis –smooth medium blue to dark metallic blue colonies with a blue halo
- C. krusei -large rough or crenated pink to medium pink colonies
- C. albicans –smooth emerald green to metallic green colonies
