CHROMAGENIC MEDIA FOR THE ENUMERATION OF BACILLUS CEREUS

 

Compact Dry X-BC is a ready-to-use test method recommended for the quantitation of Bacillus cereus in raw materials, finished products, water and environmental surfaces. Bacillus cereus is commonly found in soil and water, and therefore enter the food processing chain relatively easily. Bacillus cereus can spoil foods, furthermore its emetic and diarrheagenic enterotoxins cause vomiting and diarrhea after consumption. Routine testing procedures are recommended for food processing facilities.

Compact Dry X-BC is a 50mm diameter plate which contains dehydrated culture media and a cold water-soluble gelling agent in a non-woven cloth matrix. The medium is instantly hydrated when inoculated with a sample evenly over the matric to form a gel within seconds. Compact Dry X-BC plates are incubated at 30°C for 24 hours. Due to the chromogenic substances in the medium, Bacillus cereus grow as blue-green colonies.
